Three pillars of Islam – Tawhid, Risala and Akhirah
The 3 pillars of Islam are derived – Tawhid, Risala and Akhirah. The first 3 verses give us these meanings. In the first verse, we praise Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala), the master of the nations. This is Tawhid. The third verse affirms the day of judgement. This is Akhirah. Even though Surah Al-Fatihah does not explicitly talk about the Prophets, the concept of prophecy i.e. Risala is implied in verse 2, Ar-rahman-ir-rahim, because a forever extremely loving and caring God would not leave us without Rahmah or guidance. Because Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) is Ar-rahman-ir-rahim he sent us the Nabi-ur-Rahmah.
Three pillars of worship – Love, Hope and Fear
The 3 pillars of worship – Love, Hope and Fear, are derived in the first 3 verses. We love him in the first verse by praising him because he is worthy of the highest praise and worthy of worship. In the second verse, we hope for his Rahmah. In the third verse, we fear the judgement day i.e we are scared of his anger and punishment.
Alhamdulillah for everything
In the first verse, we say Alhamdulillah because he is Rabb. In the second verse we say Alhamdulillah for his Rahmah. In the third verse, Alhamdulillah for his perfect justice.
Rahmah and justice
In Fatihah, Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) mentioned his Rahmah, but he didn’t counter it with his punishment. He instead mentioned justice. This is because on the day of judgement, we want the Rahmah of Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala). Anyone who gets the justice of Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) will eventually get his punishment.
From the second and third verse, we extract the twins of mercy and compassion on one side and justice and retribution on the other. Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) is a God of rahmah and justice
