Surah Al-Baqarah: Ayat #4

Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 4: Wallazeena yu'minoona bimaa unzila ilaika wa maaa unzila min qablika wa bil Aakhirati hum yooqinoon

This ayat translates to “They are the kind of people who believe and are going to believe in what has been sent to you (Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)) and what was sent to people much before you, and they have absolute conviction in afterlife.”

“Akhirah” means “afterlife”.

“Yooqinoon” means “yaqeen i.e. to have conviction like you can see something”.

The Three Core Areas of Imaan:

Belief in Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala)

Belief in the message (includes Angels, Messenger, Quran)

Belief in the afterlife.

The Highlight of Imaan in Surah Baqarah:

The imaan of belief in the message is highlighted in Surah Baqarah.

Muttaqeen are the people who believe in what was sent to Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and what was sent before him. There is no third. Muttaqeen are not those who believe that there were any revelations after Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). The only big thing to believe after Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is the afterlife.

Anas (radi allahu anhu) reported Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) as saying: I and the Last Hour have been sent like this and (he while doing it) joined the forefinger with the middle finger.

Forgotten Carriers of Revelation:

In the first part, Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) mentioned the person who received the revelation – Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). In the next part, Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) didn’t mention who it was sent to. This is because, when we recite the Quran, we can say that it came down to Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). But unfortunately, for the people before us, the deterioration of understanding particularly among the Jews, led to losing sight of the original revelation.
